New Moon Day 5-7-24
The new moon in Cancer forms at 16:58 {4:58 PM} mountain time today, which is, of course, tonight or tomorrow for many of you. Last night’s dark moon was full of surprises. As the focus of life is on new beginnings, it was fascinating to feel that a large part of what was being composted and re-set was what author Barbara Hand Clow calls “Catastraphobia.” She wrote a book by that name a few decades ago. It deals with inherited, imprinted, physically held trauma of the worst that could happen, happening all over again. I have found, in my work with myself and others, that all of our bodies carry this imprint.
I was guided to view a film released in 1980 called Hiroshima, whose topic was not the blast but its aftermath. The film brought up a deluge of grief that I know to not be mine and that requires releasing at this time on the planet. The point of the story is that war is good for no one. A Japanese soldier drags an American prisoner to the top of a hill from which the ruins of the city can be viewed. Instead of shooting the prisoner, he states, “I am not going to kill you. I want you to return to your people and tell them what you have seen. You are not my enemy. War is our enemy.” He went on to say, “This must never happen again.” How quickly untrained, fearful minds forget. How easily trauma imprinting takes over. And how indulgent we are with our habits of thought and behavior.
The nurturing energies of this new moon support a new way of living that needs to be embraced. The old life is over. What will we now create?
In the film, a survivor, played by Tamilyn Tomita, recites her mother’s favorite prayer while kneeling among the ashes of a destroyed life. Born in California and now living with her husband’s family in Japan while he fights with the Americans, this woman has been reviled by both sides and is about to give birth in the middle of disastrous circumstances. {Humans do love their dramas.} The parallels between her circumstances and Gaia’s right now broke my heart open.
This is her mother’s prayer:
“There is no sickness like hate.
No gift like health,
No faith like trust.
No joy like peace.”
Tonight’s new moon is an opportunity to begin again. Whether it is personal or cultural trauma imprinting, personal or cosmic grief, we have an opportunity to let the Source that we are, repurpose all old energies. She lifts up and out of obsolete patterns if we let this happen. There is a little understood truth that once an archetype is shed, all of its emotional content sloughs off as well. The grief, the anger, and the outrage melt away. Gaia is teaching us to allow this melting, this dissolution of what was, in favor of what might be.
Allow the nurturing new moon to show you what has been held within your experience, your lessons in this life, and let Source remove that content and repurpose its energies. It is time, shining ones. Just shine. Let the new life emerge through you, as you.
For this, you were born. Don’t forget to set your intentions! A new moon is a seeding time. Let’s nurture new ones.
Infinite love,
Nalini
