A Twelve-Day Window

Twelve days till the Solstice. Can you feel its all-pervasive wave?
What can be used as a reference point when all things change simultaneously?
It’s time to rely on our Essence alone.

Will we forget how things have been? Likely.
Or perhaps not. Likely, though, that variations on these screams will fade and pass away.

“It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh, I wish I had a river
I could skate away on…” ~ Joni Mitchell

Trees whose exhalations we need to breathe. Reindeer, more muggle than magic.
Would you skate away? Will you?

“I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly…” ~Joni

What if you live immersed in this flow already? What if its crystalline rainbow droplets have always been present to carry you home?

My mum treasured a set of four ladle cradles, otherwise known as spoon rests, that hung above her kitchen sink. Each one was a ceramic memory, with a hand-painted saying in French. Each one a remnant of her youthful dreams. When she left her body, only one had escaped the ravages of life.

It read: “Le Coeur, c’est encore le plus haut point de vue de la Terre."

I found this saying, quite by chance, on a trail marker in Provence. Magic is all around us.

The marker lives on the Poet’s Walk, outside a small village that boasts peace, quiet, and a lovingly tended herd of sheep and goats, from whose milk is made some of the best cheese I have ever imbibed… and that is saying something. Each animal is cherished as a family member. Each one is known from the heart. There are infinite ways to live a life of spirit.

To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.” ~ Mary Oliver

Enjoy your morphing. May you find peace in its embrace.
