Recognition and Ownership

Karmic completions are not necessarily the cessation of negative events. These endings/beginnings do, however, set one free. Such a dissolution, or epiphany, opens us to new possibilities. The old games end. New adventures become possible.

Decades ago, Leslie Temple-Thurston and I spent a year or so processing the concept of lineage. It felt, to each of us, that the concept was shifting along with all things and that it was important to release whatever alliances and allegiances were still held within us around this concept. We met on the phone every so often to compare notes and facilitate our releases. The kind of processing we did was the kind where something is taken all the way ‘to the mat’ and then some.

Why was this important? It was not the release of a particular concept that mattered the most. It was what was available in consciousness if one released entrenched concepts and ideas. So we processed. We found bloodline lineages, both unique and in common. And we worked especially diligently on the lineages of enlightenment, the traditions we had each leaned on to become awakened.

What is a lineage? The widely held belief is that a lineage begins with an avatar, or enlightened teacher, whose teachings and the energies held within them are passed down through a line of successive teachers and teachings. The concept is based on individuals passing on knowledge and specific qualities of light.

I feel Adya puts it well with this quote: {he who comes from no one ‘human’ lineage in particular}

“Lineage is a particular type of resonant energy field. That's part of what you experience when you resonate with a teacher—the transmission of that lineage. Lineage is an energetic open space that can help open you to the revelation of reality, of who you really are. That's part of a teaching and a teacher, if they are true, real. It will have that esoteric quality. It is a deeply, energetic opening.~ Adyashanti

​Recently, as part of a new field of study, I was presented with information on a female “guru” who is part of Muktananda’s lineage. She was invested as a teacher by him, is supported by his organisation, etc. etc. Not my gig. The teachings quoted, however, shook me to my core. With slight changes to terminology, like using “Souce Essence,” instead of “Divine Presence,” her words could have been my own. This is what I have spent the past 30 years teaching.

This teacher and I share a particular astrological aspect that served as this mirror. As usual, Source’s metaphors tend to be direct. I was faced with something in myself that wanted to be recognized and owned, or owned up to.

The recognition was instant and gobsmacking. And it had nothing to do with anything but the recognition of light. I was forced to look at all of the lineages whose teachers I have been instructed by, or sat with, in a very new way. I was forced to look at this being I call “myself” in very new ways. The light show keeps coming. This is massive, it seems.

A friend said, recently, that it takes a vast amount of humility to accept enlightenment. I would elaborate that it takes that to accept the concept, to recognize and accept that designation in others, and, it takes a radically massive amount of humility to accept and receive this gift in oneself. This radical acceptance is, perhaps, the deepest form of what we call surrender. If what has been called enlightenment is unconditional surrender into Source, as Source, then I suppose it tracks. The words are not the point.

My mind was blown by this revelation in ways I obviously cannot yet articulate. It cannot keep up. And, that is as it needs to be for the purposes of this karmic completion.

Ownership of any false dependency on lineage, or admiration for any of the forms of enlightenment, thus placing them outside myself, or perhaps even attachment to that tradition, has landed. These forms, too, are transitory, yet both our attachments and our truths must be owned.

A Gemini new moon furthers the creation of new stories. Gemini is the storyteller, and this out-of-bounds new moon lands close to the galactic edge. Are you ready to be an edge-runner? I can report it is a fine adventure. Or, maybe, this is its completion. We shall see.
